Quick Takes — Energy Saving Advice
My first in a new series of super-short quick takes on current affairs…
Should the government offer advice on energy saving?
This government has yet again set out its stall as one full of contradictions. Terrified of coming across as a nanny state that is ‘telling people what to do’, Liz Truss has rejected Jacob Rees-Mogg’s plans for a public information campaign offering advice on saving energy. Those nanny state fears seem to vanish when it comes to restrictions on protest freedoms in the Police and Crime Bill. Truss needs to wake up to realities at some point — the public would surely welcome advice that not only prevents blackouts but saves them money.
